Lighting Up THE SLUMS
Roughly 300 million Indians live in energy poverty, many of who live in makeshift shantytowns known as slums. Without access to electricity, there’s little hope for them to escape a hand-to-mouth existence. However Australian social enterprise Pollinate Energy is offering an alternative, lighting up the slums with solar energy products and an innovative (and award-winning) business model. We spent an incredible week with the organisation’s Kolkata team, documenting the benefits of their work and the people behind it.
